Cloth Diapers

I'm officially a cloth diapering (CD) momma! I toyed around with this idea well before you were born. I really wanted to use cloth diapers with you. I've heard wonderful things about them and have several friends who are CD momma's.

I didn't start you off in CD's for several reasons. First and foremost, we found out we'd be moving shortly after you were born. This was just one more thing to deal with and I honestly didn't want to. I had more than enough on my plate. I also had one mom tell me to wait until you were on solid foods before starting. That was a great tip! When you hit six months, I really wanted to start CDs. Things just kept getting in the way- Daisy's surgery and traveling being the top issues. However, when I saw one of my favorite mom sites offering CDs for a great price, I had to take the bait. I ordered a set of six diapers to try.

Fun colors!!!!

The entire diapering system

You're excited about CDs too!

We've been using the CDs for a little over a week now and I LOVE them! They are so easy! I wish I'd started months ago. I will still use disposables while traveling or while we're away from the house for extended periods of time (I don't want to carry around heavy, wet diapers if I don't have to). Your diapers do offer disposable inserts, so I might try those too. We'll see.

I'm only a week and a half into this, but here are my pros and cons so far for those that are wondering.

Pros:
  • Our trash situation is much better! We live in an area where we have to pay for any trash that won't fit into our bin. This has helped in that department.
  • You don't smell like chemicals every time you wet your diaper. I can't tell you how good that makes me feel!
  • The actual diaper is super cute on your little bum and I can order some really cute styles
  • 100%, no leaks or blow outs (and trust me, you can really put out and have since we've had the new diapers!)
  • The diapers have a "snap" system that will grow with you.
  • They are easy to get on and off, like disposables
  • They don't stain... or at least not yet and you have had some pretty bad diapers
  • I don't have to worry about buying diapers!!!
Cons
  • I do have to run a load of diapers each night. I don't dry them. So, if I forget to get them out of the washer and hang them over night, I'm in trouble. This will change when I build up my supply, but right now that's just the way it is.
  • They are a bit bulky under clothes.
I know that's a short list, but I am only a week and a half into it. I know the list will grow.

  1. Congrats on making the switch! I hope you continue to love it. It can get addicting, so watch out! :)
