HAPPY BIRTHDAY HANNAH KATHRYN!!!!!!!!
We honestly cannot believe you are a year old. Daddy and I can't imagine life with out you in it. You have brought us so much joy over the past year. Our cup overflows! Each day brings new adventures and life is brighter with you around.
Firsts. You are saying "mama" and "dada" like crazy. I think you're starting to make the appropriate associations too. You are very close to saying "bye bye" Currently, you wave and say "nie, nie"
You attended your first Clemson football game. The Hubbard family holds season tickets to these games and it's a huge fall tradition for us. My parents carried me to the games growing up and your great-grandparents took your grandaddy. I was like a kid on Christmas morning taking you to the game.
You had your first stomach bug this month (Daddy and I got it too). Bless your heart. You were nauseous for 24 hours and then your poor tummy was upset for a week after. You had trouble eating and even nursing, but you drank water like it was your job! I was happy you were staying hydrated!
Motor Development. You can go from sitting to standing on your own without the assistance of an object or a friend. It's really neat to see you do it.
You have walked up to 25 steps at a time independently without falling! We officially have a toddler in the house.
You can climb up all of our stairs and are learning to go down the stairs (backwards) independently (but supervised, of course)
You love nesting objects (e.g. putting smaller objects into a larger container). I can give you a large cup and several small items and it will keep you entertained for at least 10 minutes at a time.
You are very interested in your shape sorters. You are actually beginning to match shapes with your simple shape sorter (triangles, circles and squares). Maybe it's luck, but it's progressively gotten better.
You can drink out of a straw! You actually started this the day before you turned 11 months. Conner and Mrs. Mindy were at the house and you grabbed Conner's straw cup and went to town. You are now the proud owner of your own straw cup.
You are still only using two signs, "more" and "all done" but we're being consistent with introducing other signs and hope you'll pick up on those soon.
Eating. You are eating three full meals a day and have dropped down to two nursings. We will begin the weaning process soon. You love to nurse, but try to sit up and even stand while nursing these days. I have to walk around cradling you, so you don't get distracted. I probably have a months worth of milk in the freezer, so you'll have some reserves to go through once we stop.
Favorite foods this month: Cheese, yogurt, crackers (whole wheat ritz and graham), cheese toast, waffles, veggie straws, bananas, brown rice, butter beans and apple sauce. You are still a great eater!!! In fact, you have begun eyeing our plates when we're at restaurants and excitedly signing "more" until we give you a bite. I think the days of bringing food to restaurants for you is coming to an end. You've eaten half of my meal on multiple occasions. HA!
You tried peanut butter this month. I'm happy to say, you didn't have an allergic reaction. I haven't given it to you since, call me chicken.
Teeth. You have your first molar!!! I felt this intruder in the back of your mouth right around 11 months, but I couldn't actually see it. I had taken you to the pediatrician for a low grade fever and pain. She only checked your bottom teeth at the time and ruled teething out. Again, you surprised everyone by popping your top, right molar first. I wonder if that had anything to do with your mild ear infection. Your top, left molar is just beginning to come through too. You are handling it like a champ, but I know it is causing you a lot of pain. For the first time since January, you've woken up in the middle of the night crying so hard I've had to pick you up and rock you back to sleep. Growing a molar is much different than your front teeth.
Sleeping. You are a fantastic sleeper. For that, I am thankful. Minus a few restless nights and crying due to your incoming molars, you are sleeping from 7pm-7am every night and you take 2 naps a day that are generally 1.5-2 hours a piece.
A Few of Your Favorite Things. You absolutely love the bath tub. This month you've been "swimming" in the tub. You go from sitting to lying on your belly and kicking. You think it's the grandest thing! I think swim lessons are in our future!
You love to be read to. Daddy and I will pull out your box of books and you will grab one and crawl into our laps to read. You've spent up to 20 minutes at a time doing this, which I think is outstanding for a baby!
You love Elmo. I usually turn Sesame Street on for you in the mornings while I'm getting some house work done. You are completely zoned into it when Elmo is on the screen. It's so funny!
Your favorite toy is a light up Baby Einstein music box. It plays about 8 different tunes and you love pressing the button to make it play.
A Few of Your Least Favorite Things. You despise being changed. You wiggle and squirm and try your best to break free from us. I have to give you something to keep your hands busy to get a new diaper on.
On that same note, you hate getting dressed. You scream bloody murder after your bath when we put you in your pajamas. I'm surprised our neighbors haven't called child services. Your world ends when we have to put clothes on you. We occasionally let you streak around the house for a few minutes until you calm down enough to at least get a diaper on you. Oh, I think we're going to have our hands full when the tantrums start. HA!
Fun Things.
You flew on a plane again this month. This trip was to SC and we had a small layover. You did great! We lucked out and got an entire row to ourselves. I pulled down the tray tables and you had fun entertaining yourself for the 1.5 hour flight.
Hudson came to visit you this month. You two had a ton of fun playing together!
We continue to have play dates and stay outside as much as possible. We know that winter is just around the corner.
Hannah Kathryn, we love you so much and can't wait to spend many more years watching you grow. You are such a blessing to us all!
Love,
Mommy and Daddy
