The Surgery

After a year of visits to the opthamologist, you had eye surgery today. Your surgery was scheduled for 7:40am.  You were a little confused when I got you out of your crib, but quickly woke up and stayed fairly happy throughout the morning. You had fun in the waiting room, watching the other children and reading/singing with mommy and daddy.

We had a wonderful experience through the entire procedure. The staff was excellent! I was most impressed with your anesthesiologist. He came over to your bed and spent time talking to and getting to know you.  Here you are in the preop area. You didn't have a clue what was about to happen and had a good time entertaining the staff. You really liked the music they had playing and decided to dance for them.

When it was almost time for your surgery, the anesthesiologist scooped you up and took you to another area to administer the anesthesia. You were such a brave girl and didn't get too upset when you left. They let you take your doggie and paci with you, so that helped tremendously.

They surgery didn't take very long at all, literally 15-20 minutes from the time they took you until we saw you again. When you started waking up, we were called back to be with you.

You were a bit fussy coming out of the anesthesia, but seemed to calm down at the sound of our voices. It took you a bit of time to wake up. You were ready for some apple juice and drank almost two full cups before heading home. Dr. B came in and spoke with us about the procedure. He said that both of your tear ducts were fully clogged and that your surgery was a success! We are very happy with our decision to move forward with the surgery and hope you continue to do well.

We got home around 9am and you've been sleeping now for almost 3 hours. It doesn't seem that you've had any sort of reaction to the anesthesia, so that's a very good thing! We're very proud of how brave you were today, Hannah!
