Happy One Month Baby Collins!

What a month it has been! We love our Collins and have enjoyed watching her grow.

Stats:
*We have a little peanut on our hands. At one month, Collins is still wearing newborn clothes (some 0-3 that run on the smaller side) and newborn diapers.
*She is gaining weight like a champ! At her 2 week appointment, she was 7lbs, 8oz. They look for babies to be back to birth weight (for her, 7.1) by this appointment, so surpassing it with a nursing baby was wonderful news!

Loves:
*Sleeping with hands at her face. She gets mad as a hornet if you try to swaddle her arms or cover her hands with anything (including the long sleeves of her gown accidentally going of over them).
*Sucking on her paci
*Snuggling on your chest with her ear as close to your heart as she can get.
*Sitting in the bouncey/vibrating chair

Hates:
*Arms being swaddled
*Diaper changes, cold wipes, wardrobe changes
*Being put into the car seat

Schedule:
*Generally, Collins feeds every 3 hours. She will give me a few longer stretches at night. Her longest has been 5 hours (but usually only goes 3.5-4) and it's generally when we put her down for the night. I've been trying to get to bed shortly after her.
*She's on a great eat, wake, sleep cycle. During her wake periods, we've started tummy time. Her head and neck control is getting much better (although still wobbly). She's also started batting at objects when lying underneath her play gym.
*Her fussiest period is late afternoon. We spend lots of time holding and soothing her. This gets interesting when dinner needs preparing, big sister needs tending to (including bath and bed time routine), etc... Daddy can't get home fast enough some nights ;)

Collins is such a good little baby. She really only cries when something is wrong- hungry, overly tired, gassey, or needs changing. Once the need is tended to, she quits.

Adjusting to life with two littles has been an experience. Currently, the biggest hurdle for me is definitely the lack of sleep. There isn't enough coffee to keep me awake, lol! With Hannah, I could sleep when she slept and was still able to get all of my daily activities completed. With Collins, I'm probably averaging 5 hours of sleep (6 if I can squeeze a nap in) a day. The early morning feeding is the hardest. Collins finishes eating and is usually going back to sleep about 30 mins before Hannah is getting up for the day. This generally means I'm starting my day as early as 4:30am (sometimes I can get in an extra 30 mins of light sleep before H gets up). It could be much worse, so I'm not complaining ;)

The morning routine on preschool days has been an adjustment. It's a rat race to get out of the door. It literally takes 3 hours if I shower (and I'm quick, lol!). Nursing, pumping, washing parts and bottles, breakfast, getting everyone dressed and ready, lunch packed, Daisy cared for, etc Whew! There's a learning curve and I'm sure it will get easier/quicker with time.

The big sister front:
Hannah has had a really tough transition. The first couple of weeks were really bad for her. She acted out and wanted nothing to do with Collins nor me. Naps were a challenge, which complicated things even further since she'd be exhausted. Over the past week, she has gotten much better. Her behavior has greatly improved (less rebelling and having to disciple) and her naps are back on schedule for the most part. She's even "helping" more with C by offering her paci when upset, taking diapers to the trash, giving toys during tummy time, etc. Slowly, but surely she's coming around.

Last week, Emerson and her baby sister came to visit. H wanted nothing to do with either baby, but was content to hold a doll.

This week, she decided to hold her sister. It didn't last long, but it was a big step!

We love Collins and look forward to watching her grow!
